Leadership Teams · Workforce Capacity Programme

Four months to bring your leadership team back from running on reserve

A clinically led programme for senior teams under sustained pressure. We restore the physiology behind clear thinking and steady leadership, and measure the change from the first week to the last

Who it's for

Built for senior teams carrying more than they show.

Most of the leadership teams we work with are in the middle of something demanding: a transformation, a restructure, rapid growth, or the arrival of AI across the business. The work keeps getting done. The cost shows up elsewhere.

  • Reacting faster, and thinking less clearly under pressure.
  • Holding on to work that should be delegated.
  • Perfectionism that slows every decision.
  • Never quite switching off, even on holiday.

These are not character flaws. They are what a nervous system looks like after months on high alert, and they can be changed.

How the four months run

Eight sessions, one clinical thread.

The Programme follows the D.R.I.V.E. Framework: Diagnose, Regulate, Interrupt, Vitalise, Evidence. Each cohort is up to 20 leaders.

  1. Before you start

    Diagnose

A baseline of where your team's capacity is being lost, ideally through the Workforce Capacity Diagnostic, so the Programme targets what matters most.

  2. Session 1

    The opening session

A 90 minute group session, at your workplace or online, that sets out the science and what leaders will notice changing.

  3. Sessions 2 to 7

    Regulate and Interrupt

Six facilitated breathwork sessions of about 90 minutes, delivered online and ideally joined from home, where the body feels safest. Leaders learn to calm their stress response, then release the patterns that keep them in overdrive.

  4. Session 8

    Vitalise

A two hour lifestyle medicine workshop, at your workplace or online, turning sleep, nutrition, movement and connection into small, practical changes that last.

  5. Throughout

    Evidence

Measured at the start, middle and end, so you see the change rather than taking it on trust.

Measurement and reporting

Data your board can trust.

Every cohort is measured with validated scales, including perceived stress (PSS-10) and wellbeing (WHO-5). Where leaders have their own wearable devices, we add their physiological data at the start, middle and end. You receive a board ready report at the close of the Programme, showing what changed across the team.

What changed for one leadership team

A large UK enterprise · 50 senior leaders · two cohorts · 4 month programme

25%

lower average perceived stress (PSS-10)

20%

higher average wellbeing (WHO-5)

Average change across the cohort, measured with validated scales.

Safety and privacy

Clinically led, and private by design.

Every participant completes a health disclosure before the breathwork begins and works to their own ability throughout. Sessions are designed and led by Bal Matharu, an Advanced Respiratory Physiotherapist with more than 25 years of clinical practice.

Individual results stay with the individual. The organisation sees anonymised, collective scores only.

Questions leaders ask

Before you book

Do we need the Diagnostic first?

It is recommended, because it shows where capacity is being lost and gives you a baseline to measure against. The Diagnostic fee is credited in full if you move on to the Programme within 90 days.

How much of our leaders' time does it take?

Eight sessions over four months: six of about 90 minutes and two of up to two hours.

Is it online or in person?

The six breathwork sessions are online, ideally joined from home. The opening session and the lifestyle medicine workshop can be held at your workplace or online.

What if our leadership team is larger than 20?

We run the Programme as several cohorts. Our enterprise client's 50 senior leaders took part in two cohorts.

Will we see individual results?

No. Each leader sees their own snapshot. The organisation sees anonymised, collective scores only.

Do you work with frontline teams too?

Yes. See our Frontline Programme, built for the people who keep your services running.

About Bal Matharu

The person who leads every session.

Bal Matharu spent over 25 years as an Advanced Respiratory Physiotherapist before her own experience of burnout during COVID changed what she understood about human health, human limits, and why the standard clinical toolkit was not enough.

Her PhD research examines how breathwork shifts cellular inflammation, nervous system state, and chronic psychosomatic symptoms in clinical populations. She is a Lifestyle Medicine practitioner, a Scientific Board Member of the International Breathwork Foundation, and sits on the Board of the Abhyas Institute for Universal Awareness. In 2026, she proposed a pilot project to the Ministry of Health in Mauritius to bring nervous system regulation and Lifestyle Medicine into national healthcare as an intervention for non-communicable diseases.

Bal's work has been featured across media outlets exploring the science behind breath, the body's stress response, and why what happens in the nervous system drives outcomes in both mental and physical health.

She works with small corporate cohorts personally, there is no associate team delivering on her behalf. Every session is led by Bal, that is a deliberate decision, and it is what makes the outcomes consistent.

Clinical Practice
Advanced Respiratory Physiotherapist, 25+ years NHS and specialist clinical practice in respiratory medicine and complex health presentations.
PhD Research
Doctoral research measuring how breathwork interventions shift cellular inflammation, nervous system state, and psychosomatic markers. Active research, not historical qualification.
Scientific Board Member
International Breathwork Foundation. Peer-reviewed credibility in a field that is often short of clinical rigour. This is the difference between evidence and anecdote.
Lifestyle Medicine
Qualified Lifestyle Medicine practitioner. The work addresses physiology across the full picture, not a single intervention in isolation.
